Our goal was to authentically connect the film with an artist that aligned with the major theme of accessing the ultimate natural resource, creativity. Early in his career, Retna gained sizable notoriety in the art world and graffiti world by painting over bus stop ads in his signature gestural style. Putting a new spin on something historically and culturally significant resulted in us commissioning Retna to create one of one artworks utilizing the same assets from the movie posters used to advertise the film. The paintings were then exhibited at the Purple Carpet Premiere of Marvel’s “Black Panther” . After the Purple Carpet Premiere, we had Black Panther Director Ryan Coogler speak in front of a theater full of kids and families, after bringing them in for a free full day of movie fun at Maya Cinemas Fresno.
